The process
Estimate, survey, then a firm price
No commitment until you sign.
Online estimate
Choose how many rooms, give rough sizes and say where an outdoor unit might fit. You see a guide price on the last screen.
Survey at home
An installer checks the walls, the consumer unit and the pipe route, and suggests the best spot for each unit.
Firm written price
The quote is fixed by what the survey found. Book a fitting date only if you’re happy with it.
What the price depends on
Your house sets the price, not a rate card
A two-bedroom terrace in Newtown and a four-bedroom house in Lower Earley need different work, even for the same number of rooms. The estimate asks the questions that matter.
01
Room count and size
Bigger or sunnier rooms need more cooling capacity.
02
One system or several
Separate pairs, a shared multi-split, or ducted through the loft.
03
Access and pipe run
How far the pipes go, how high the outdoor unit sits and any wiring needed.
Your guide figure is a few clicks away. The survey then fixes it in writing. How costs are worked out.
Start my estimateTypical Reading homes
Where people usually start
Red-brick terraces
East Reading, Newtown and Katesgrove are full of Victorian terraces with a back bedroom over the kitchen that bakes on summer evenings.
Town-centre flats
Apartments with big glazed walls near the station and the Oracle heat up quickly. Fitting needs the freeholder’s consent, which the flats guide explains.
Home offices
With the Elizabeth line, many people split the week between London and a spare room at home. That room is usually the first one cooled.
Newer estates
Homes at Kennet Island, Green Park Village and around Shinfield are well insulated, which keeps heat in during a hot week. Their lofts often suit ducted systems.
Questions
Before you start an estimate
Can it go in a flat?
Usually, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees in writing, because the outdoor unit goes on a shared wall or balcony. Check your lease first. The flats guide covers what to ask for.
How long does the survey take?
Usually under an hour for a few rooms. The installer needs to see each room, the fuse board and the outside walls where units might go.
Will it heat as well as cool?
Yes. These systems are air-to-air heat pumps and run in reverse in the colder months, which is handy for rooms the central heating doesn’t reach well.
Do you cover Wokingham and the villages?
Yes. Wokingham, Twyford, Sonning, Pangbourne, Theale and the villages in between are all covered. See the areas page.
Is the online figure what I’ll pay?
It’s a guide. The written quote after the survey is the firm price, and it can move up or down once the installer has seen the house.
